MTV has decided to kill off the part of its logo many of its viewers thought was unnecessary for years.

A redesigned logo has deleted the words “Music Television” from Frank Olinsky’s original design, first introduced in 1983 when the channel launched as a 24-hour music video network.
The channel kept the block “M” and the graffitied “TV”, but as Dylan Stableford of The Wrap reports: “It was a minor change with major symbolism.”
Considering that the network is known more for its scripted reality shows, the masquerade MTV was pulling by retaining “Music Television” as part of its logo was getting quite a bit silly.
