Rocker Ozzy Osbourne is set to be honored by the City of West Palm Beach on Friday at 5 p.m. at Centennial Square.
West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel will give Osbourne the key to the city in recognition for his many years of bringing both his shows and Ozzfest to South Florida.
Buzz 103.1 Morning Buzz host Jeremy Loper, whose station helped organize the event, said this is an opportunity for South Florida fans to show appreciation to the rocker and his family.
“Ozzfest had started off here every year for a long time, and Ozzy and Sharon always stayed in West Palm Beach,” Loper said. “We want to say thank you to Ozzy and his family for all of the memories, and we thought this was the best idea to do that.”
The ceremony will precede Osbourne’s book-signing ceremony at Barnes & Noble in Palm Beach Gardens at 6 p.m. for the former Black Sabbath lead singer’s new autobiography, I Am Ozzy. Only those with wristbands are allowed in the signing line — Barnes & Noble will give wristbands to those patrons who purchase I Am Ozzy after 2 p.m. Friday.

Ozzy may not have much to do with West Palm Beach, but I do think it is kinda cool that 103.1 the Buzz was abl;e to convince the Mayor of WPB to give Ozzy the key to the city. True, she is probably only doing it to use the space at the foot of Clematis and bring people downtown, but what does it hurt? The space is there, and so soon will Ozzy Osborne. As far as I know, neither Right Said Fred or Frankie Goes to Hollywood have even stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Lantana, dined at the Bizaare Ave. Cafe in Lake Worth, and spent time on the beach in Palm Beach. If they have, then give them a key to the city as well. If not, then either go to the event and enjoy the spectacle, or SHUT UP!

Unless you live in the DDA district (downtown) you didn’t pay one dime for the $30 waterfront. And if you don’t like it, please don’t come downtown. Stay in home or better yet, move out of the city. Most of us love the new downtown. Active and fun.

I work in a drug and alcohol rehab. I think you should go visit one and see how REHAB does help people and see how many people CAN make a new life for themselves even after years of abuse AND stay sober many years afterwards!

I need to explain how LOPER, SMITTY, & RANDI started this CRAZYTRAIN called OZZY GRAS. We started the movement 3 days ago on our Morning show ( http://www.morningbuzz103.com ). We heard he was coming to town and nobody was giving him the welcome we thought he deserved. We all need to thank Jeremy Loper for getting in touch with OZZY’s camp and having THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS appear at the WPB WATERFRONT today. It kicks off at 4:00PM and OZZY WILL BE THERE with 103.1 THE BUZZ
Oh, I also should mention that LOPER, SMITTY, & RANDI are paying for the permits and for the stage.
As always, WPB honors people who have brought in a substantial amount of money into our area. Ozzy obviously fits this description; of course he deserves this ceremony and publicity.

The only photo shoot I would attend would be at the county jail when the mayor, commissioners, and a certain local developer get there mug shots taken before being housed. I can’t believe the city projects going foreward while the Police, Fire, and city workers are having to forfeit benefits and pay raises. I feel that being in Politics now days means being a bigger scumbag than the criminals that the police arrest and put in jail. At least criminals are doing what they are expected to do, policiticans are are doing it under the cover or their office.
