By Sarah Mulé   |  True Blood  |  July 20, 2009

So, all in all, I think last night’s episode of True Blood was kind of lame, but with some interesting bits thrown in.

Number one: Daphne’s a deer!
Number two: Sarah Newlin and Jason. Ahem.
Number three: Maryann is needy. (Duh)

And even number three is pushing it a little.

Maryann, for some reason we still don’t know about, has latched on to Tara like a leech and is prone to major temper tantrums when Tara tries to go her own way. (Like how she made everyone in Merlotte’s gang up on Tara when Tara told her she couldn’t move in to Sookie’s house.)

Eggs defends Maryann, which makes me still unsure of him and also makes me wonder if he knows what she’s up to.

Watching last night with my boyfriend, he noticed that Maryann has this knack for causing people to hook up. Wonder if it’s part of her maenad-ness or maybe part of a bigger plan. Any guesses?

Since she’s come to town, it seems that just about everyone has someone. Even Sam.

Which leads us to Daphne who – surprise – happens to be a shape-shifter… just like Sam. Coincidental? Maybe. Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think Maryann has something to do with that, too. It’s those scratch marks, I’m telling ya. (Did you notice Maryann’s hands last episode during the party scene? Go back and look if you didn’t.)

I think the only person Maryann hasn’t yet affected is Jason. Since he’s in crazy, vampire hating boot camp, of course.

Wonder if the thing Sarah Newlin thinks her reverend husband is taking too far has anything to do with his vamp extermination arsenal hidden in the basement.

She certainly knows about taking things too far, however.

I mean, fondling a man, who is not your husband, in a bathtub while telling him bible stories… weird.

I hope for Jason’s sake Rev. Newlin doesn’t find out. He does have that flame thrower after all.

We learn this episode that missing vamp Godric created Erik, which would explain some of Erik’s passion to find him.

We also learn that Bill and Sookie have an unhappy, but very well dressed, female vamp standing outside their hotel room door.

Who is that mystery lady? Bill’s maker, perhaps? I’m thinking so.

Next episode’s previews look much more exiting than this episode. I, for one, cannot wait to see how much trouble Sookie finds herself in after“infiltrating”the Fellowship of the Sun.

Did I leave anything out? Tell me your theories on Maryann.

My favorite quotes this episode:

“You’re gonna be so sorry when I get an eating disorder!” – Jessica to Bill after he makes her return the human she ordered off the menu and tells her to go drink some True Blood instead.

“Decapitation might work, so we’ve got a guillotine on order, just in case.” – Rev. Newlin to Jason while showing him the store room of vampire killing weapons.

P.S. Here’s a link to a TV Guide interview with Michelle Forbes who plays Maryann. She sheds some light on her character and what it’s like to play a maenad. http://www.tvguide.com/News/True-Blood-Forbes-1007941.aspx
